WHAT IS A MEMORY CAFÉ?
A Memory Café is a safe, supportive environment, often described as a “meet up”, designed to engage attendees in cognitive activities to keep the mind active and strong. Memory Cafés keep attendees mentally and socially active, which research shows is protective of brain health.
These gatherings are free and open to all older adults. Guest speakers are occasionally scheduled, and community resource information is available. All family, friends and caregivers are welcome to attend. No care is provided at these gatherings so anyone needing assistance must bring their own caregiver.
If you are interested in starting a Memory Café at your place of business, the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc.® (GGGAFC) will provide you with step-by-step training on how to implement your own café. Upon completion of this training, GGGAFC will provide you with a Memory Café Certification. Included in this certification is ongoing advertisement of and referrals to the Memory Café locations we certify.
